Hello guys!

I've been feeling better. My stomach pain has eased up. I've been sleeping all day because the pain kept me up last night and I was having trouble breathing, but everything seems to be fine for the moment. I just had a cup of orange juice and I don't feel as sluggish as I did just an hour ago.

I was reading some of the blogs on my Wordpress account yesterday and I saw one questioning whether superheroes are the new gods. I don't have an particular thoughts on that per se, but I noticed that on the article comments there were a lot of men complaining about the author's thoughts on sexism in the genre.

I noticed that some men seem to have a knee jerk reaction to claims of sexism. I thought the author had a point, you know? But a lot of the commenters we're missing that.

Anyway I just read this article on women in science fiction. Now you guys know I love a good romance novel. Why is it that that romance is seen as inherently bad thing?

Idk. I'm still smarting from my niece dissing my choice of reading. She told me I read nasty books. LMAO really? I have to wonder who taught her that.

В продолжение китайско-автомобильной темы. Я невольно обращаю внимание, что висит или лежит перед носом у водителей разных стран. У русских, например, либо иконы с дорожными молитвами, либо ароматизаторы, у татар - зеленые амулеты с золотой арабской вязью, у непальцев - вращающиеся барабаны с мантрами либо статуэтки индуистских богов, а у китайцев - тоже барабаны либо амулеты с красным макраме. В общем-то смысл понятен, в дороге каждый доверяет свою судьбу чему то большему, чем он сам.

Незадолго до моей только что завершившейся поездки в Китай мне на глаза попалась аннотация к книге Владимира Марченко "Китай: как стать сюнди". Книга вообще говоря про то, как вести бизнес с китайскими партнерами. Несмотря на непонятное (большинству) название и скучную (для большинства) тему, книга была адресована широкому кругу читателей. Ну а мне, само собой, и тема тоже была интересна.
От прочтения получила несказанное удовольствие, от чувства юмора автора и, особенно, от того, что в каждой главе я, вспоминая свой собственный опыт, видела что-то знакомое и узнаваемое. Там про всё-всё-всё: и про то, как правильно рассаживаться за столом, как культурно отказаться принимать в пищу что-то чересчур страшное и экзотичное, каких подвохов можно ожидать от китайских коллег, как не упиться вусмерть после десяти адресованных персонально тебе тостов, про знаменитую потерю лица и много всего другого. Разве что про особенности рабочего процесса вы там не прочтете, но мне, например, собственной практики для этого хватает. В общем, рекомендую. Более того, прочитав эту книгу, вы смело можете не читать мои записи с тегом "Китай". Ну то есть как можете...я, конечно, буду ревновать :)))).  

It's raining, and I can hear the dog behind me, snoring softly. This makes me happy.

I'm thinking about starting a new round of salt_burn_porn. It'd have to be in July. Maybe? I know it's BB time, so this could be a huge mistake (for you and for me) but I miss porn it. Thoughts? Yay or nay?

I also neglected to mention that I had a lovely Father's Day dinner with my family on Sunday. I cleverly steered them to the brand new Houlihan's that I previously scoped out but had not yet visited. It was DELICIOUS. The last time I ate at a Houlihan's was in Chicago, and rivers_bend and I had an amazing conversation, and it is one of my most favorite fangirl memories ever.

ALSO. Our waitress looked strongly like celtic_cookie and every time she'd smile at us or joke with my Dad, I'd pine a little more.

I need fangirls! Can it be wincon-time NOW??
